Casa Carrillo was formerly known as E.P. Carrillo (and EPC Cigar Co. before that), being the creation of Ernesto Perez-Carrillo and his family. Ernesto began his career in the cigar industry decades prior, helping to bring his family's El Credito factory and their La Gloria Cubana brand to prominence during the cigar boom of the '90s. This led to the sale of the Carrillos' operation to Swedish Match (now known as Scandinavian Tobacco Group) in 1999, with Ernesto working for the company for the following decade before departing in 2009. Today, the Carrillo family manages their own brand and factory—each named Casa Carrillo—being based out of Santiago, Dominican Republic. The company has a host of highly rated cigars—including multiple Cigar of the Year awards—and the factory is home to many other respected names throughout the world of premium cigars.
